Dita Von Teese, Queen of Burlesque (http://www.dita.net/)

Following on from Schotz's post of September 15th, entitled Real Women, I have to add my two pence worth and say hurrah for curves, hurrah for sexy lingerie and hurrah for boobs!

But most of all I think, hurrah for Burlesque, the newest craze to sweep the nation. Our very own version of Dita Von Teese (possibly the sexiest woman since Bettie Page), Immodesty Blaize* has been storming America with her fellow sex kittens keeping the Burlesque tradition alive.

But what is Burlesque exactly?

A quick search on the www picked up this definition:

* a theatrical entertainment of broad and earthy humor; consists of comic skits and short turns (and sometimes striptease)
* parody: a composition that imitates somebody's style in a humorous way
* spoof: make a parody of; "The students spoofed the teachers"
* relating to or characteristic of a burlesque; "burlesque theater"

"Burlesque" was originally a form of art that mocked by imitation. It was often ridiculous in that it imitated several styles and combined imitations of authors and artists with absurd descriptions.

In this, the term "burlesque" was often used interchangeably with "pastiche," "parody," and, at the turn of the 18th century, "mock-heroic."

And with stars such as the aforementioned Ms. Blaize, the 'World Famous' Pontani Sisters and Catherine D'lish all flying the flag for inner sexiness, we should all take a leaf out of their books and march to the sound of The Stripper (Listen).

I for one am proud to have something to fill all that lovely new tassled underwear I'm going to treat myself too...

* That lucky pup, Shocking Fish got to meet Immodesty Blaize in person. And he's STILL GAY?!
