How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild and Got a Life by Kaavya Viswanathan

I'm reading Chick Lit currently which I don't often do. But for every cult classic or hard-boiled political thriller, there's an easy-read - and this is like Mean Girls in novel form.

I'll have finished it by this evening but sometimes a girl's just gotta get stuck in and relax with a good book.

What gets me is that it's author is just eighteen years old (seventeen when she started this book) and has received rave reviews in the US where it was sold to Little, Brown as the first in a two-book deal for $500,000!

And... the movie rights have gone to Dreamworks! Which means it may be turned into a big screen adaptation starring whichever Hollywood-it girl is most popular at the time.

Argh. While this book is enjoyable, it's hardly original or well-written. It's like candyfloss for the mind. It requires no thought whatsoever.

My novel would be so much better. If I could just get off my ass and start it...

Hmpf.
