W
My letter for this Meme from the wonderful Magpie is W - obviously! So here goes - all my favourite things beginning with a W:
Wonder Woman - an obvious starting point, Wonder Woman is my hero and has been from a very young age, way before I even lived in this country. As a little person finding her voice, I aspired to be just like my heroine - strong, nubile, feminine - all this with luscious locks - well, 2 out of 4 ain't bad!
Now of course, I know old Wondy was a propaganda tool, a feminist icon to coax young women out of the kitchen and into areas that had previously been marked inaccessible. And she was created by the man who invented the lie detector (hence the lasso of truth?). Which I think is pretty cool.
" Now the world is ready for you and the wonders you can do
Make a hawk a dove
stop a war with love
Make a liar tell the truth"
The Wizard of Oz - One of my favourite films of all time, it represents everything a good film should - iconic characters, a fantasy storyline, timeless imagery, a pair of sparkly ruby slippers... it's all there. I will never tire of it.
"Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."
Woody Allen - neurotic, cynical, twisted - he could be me, if I was a world famous film director and had a penchant for young girls... Love, love, love Woody. Especially Sleeper, Annie Hall, Interiors and Manhattan.
Willy Wonka - one of the greatest film characters of all time, immortalised twice on celluloid - once by the legend that is Gene Wilder and again by dreamy Johnny Depp.
I love the fact that Willy Wonka is so obviously flawed, and despite his career choice, is a deep, dark moody character who doesn't appear to have much time for children and niceties. I really identify with him there!
Walking around naked - I always feel better in the buff.
Will & Grace - I never watched it before until a few months ago when I discovered the repeats on Channel 4 in the mornings, while putting my slap on ready for work. Now I love it, it's very funny.
Wondy Mum - I love Wondy Mum, she's very very cool and wise, like my own guru. Thank God for her is all I can say - she soothes me when I am near hysterical and understands my moods and loves me irregardless (see Mean Girls) of whether or not I am being a childish brat at the time. Love you Mum!
Wondy Bro - is like a newly discovered friend but is also my brother - he has lots and lots of interesting things to say and is a constant inspiration - and he's been under my nose the whole time!
And that’s it for the Ws!

I love Willie Wonka. He's so obviously a nutter on the grandest scale. Sort of like Tim Burton, he has found a place where his insnity can be captured and used.
