Out the way, Barry Norman, there's a new critic in town...
Like The CBC this evening I offer a movie recommendation.
Feeling spritely and gay this morning, Rocker and I decided to take in a movie, so dressed in my trusty Sunday afternoon movie garb (Rocker wore a cravat), off we skipped to the flicks to watch Children of Men, a rather bleak futuristic film, based on a novel by P.D. James, and directed by the great Alfonso CuarĂ³n.
Well, this is not a feel-good movie by any stretch but it is about hope, I suppose on some level. Don't expect magical pixies and trumpet wielding unicorns to scatter the final scenes.
It's bloody, depressing, scary and dark and the film is littered with ominous warnings that we may well take heed of, the suggestion is the world is collapsing and it's all our fault.
The general gist is this (stolen from the warm arms of The Internet Movie Database (IMDb)):
- In 2027, in a chaotic world in which humans can no longer procreate, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea, where her child's birth may help scientists save the future of humankind.
Well, I loved it.
Clive Owen is getting sexier as his roles get better and the story is a good one.
I'd say if you get the chance, dive in and enjoy it.
