We Need To Talk About Wondy

Reading my friend Chica's post of yesterday I have been thinking a little about literature and the fact that I, too, have been neglecting my reading material lately, due to one thing or another.

I hate when that happens.

In Thailand, I read four or five books a day, sometimes devouring one in a few hours. Ok, there was nothing else for me to do on the island but sit on the beach during the day so that may have been the deciding factor but still. I did vow I wouldn't lose that when I got back and I have.

It doesn't help that Rocker isn't a reader and he teases me by chanting 'Bookworm! Bookworm!' when I pick up the nearest tome. Admittedly, it isn't a sociable interest and it is just easier to watch a film with your other half.

But now I'm thinking about books again I must finish the two I currently have on the go.

I'm reading The New York Trilogy: "City of Glass", "Ghosts" and "Locked Room" by Paul Auster, as recommended by my brother, who's currently well into his American literature. It's definitely surreal but wonderfully written - I've just finished the first part: City of Glass - which was just brilliant.

And I'm also halfway through Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind - which is also very very well written. I haven't even flirted with seeing the film version yet - I want to complete the book ad maybe catch it on DVD later.

Incidently, have any of you read We Need to Talk About Kevin? If you have let me know what you thought, because it really affected me and has stuck in my mind ever since I put it down.

Comments please.

I'll have to check out that New York Trilogy as I'm always on the hunt for authors I haven't tried yet.

I don't know that Perfume would interest me but let me know what you think.

I think I'd be afraid of anyone who wasn't affected by We Need To Talk About Kevin. It's quite the peek at teh mind indeed.
